Autumn Junior Regatta at Christchurch Sailing Club Event Date: 29-31 October 2008 Christchurch Sailing Club’s Autumn Junior Regatta took place from 29th to 31st October. 10 young sailors from Mudeford, Highcliffe & Christchurch Sailing Clubs braved icy conditions to take part in the 3 day event, held during the half-term holiday. Wednesday’s two races took place in a light north-easterly and were dominated by Joanne Arnell sailing her Topper to two 1st places. Close behind were Liam Cure (Topper) and Jim Sowden / Ariella Thompson in their RS Feva.
With gusts over 28 knots, Thursday’s races were cancelled and Race Officer, Tony Lock, scheduled 3 races in blustery conditions on Friday. The stronger breeze suited Jamie Tarrant (Topper) who scored two 1sts & a 2nd, with Jim & Ariella sailing consistently to record a 2nd & 1st in the final two races. Jack Arnell, sailing a Radial, enjoyed the stronger winds to finish the series with a 2nd & two 3rd places.
The final positions were very close, with the top 3 crews separated by just two points.
