I have seen that the link occasionally does not work on an android phone IF you are using Google calender rather than the native android one. If that is the case, try this;
 

1. Remove Google Calendar App from phone

2. Open Browser on phone and then log into Google Account

3. In the Browser, open the Google Calendar (because app has been removed, it stays in the browser)

4. Add new Calendar using the the URL above.

5. Close browser

6. Re-install Google App and log in.
