HSC WhatsApp Etiquette

The recent Member Survey highlighted that you are pleased with the use of Whats App for club communication but that some groups can get a bit noisy…to help this we have devised Whats App Etiquette !  

Please take the time to read this and more importantly help us put it into practice ! 

Core Principles

 

* Stick to the Purpose:  Ensure your messages align with the group's reason  (e.g.,sailing, racing. community)

* Respect Time: Avoid posting between late evenings and early mornings unless urgent

* Privacy: Use private messages for one-on-one conversations, not the group chat

 

Best Practice

 

* Ask for direct messages:  When asking for information please request DM’s (Direct Messages…e.g ‘I am looking for a plumber, please DM me if you have a recommendation)

* Ask for reactions:When inviting please ask for reactions  (e.g ‘I am going to then club for a coffee at 10.30am please thumbs up if you’d like to join)

* Use responses: Please react to a message rather than reply (click and hold the message you are reacting too and choose the appropriate emoji - don’t send a separate message)

* Consider your reply before sending : if you CAN’T make something please just react with a thumbs down…if you would like to give the reason please do this by direct message NOT within the group

* Photos : please be selective, don’t send more than 10 photos

* Please don’t add the same message to multiple groups

* Don’t send club codes within groups - please send them directly
